Artist Talk: Heji Shin
Heji Shin (b. 1976, Seoul, Korea). She studied at the Hochschule für Angewandte Wissenschaften in Hamburg and currently lives and works in New York. Her editorial and fashion photography has been published in Die Zeit (DE), Vogue Japan, Dazed and Confused (UK)), Harper’s Bazaar (US), Interview Magazine (US) and Purple (Fr), among many others. She has contributed to Frieze Magazine (UK) and her work was featured on the cover of Artforum Magazine (US).
In 2012, her photographs were used to illustrate the best-selling sexual education book “Make Love”, which was translated in 7 languages and distributed worldwide.
Her work has been shown internationally in many galleries and art fairs, among others Real Fine Arts gallery, New York, US (2013 and 2016), Galerie Bernhardt, Zurich, Switzerland (2016) and Reena Spaulings, New York, US (2018), Mathew Galerie, Berlin, Germany. In 2018, she had solo exhibitions at Galerie Buchholz, Berlin, Germany and Kunsthalle Zurich.
She has participated in several group exhibitions, including Statens Museum For Kunst, Kopenhagen, Denmark, Palais de Tokyo (FR), Museo Made Napoli (IT).
In 2018 she participated in group shows at Barbara Gladstone, New York, US, Green Naftali gallery, New York, & Buchholz gallery, New York, US. She participated in the 2018 Athens Biennale in Athens, Greece and the 2019 Whitney Biennale at the Whitney Museum, New York, US.
